Instructor Development Course

Hussain Rasheed Sendi
Sendi started diving in the Maldives about 25 years ago, 2006 Sendi will be celebrating his 20 years membership with PADI. Initially started diving as a professional photographer but within few years of membership with PADI Sendi became a PADI Instructor.
With his passionate in teaching, Sendi started teaching IDC’s in 1995, since then he has been teaching instructor level course and gained twice the PADI’s award for “Outstanding Contribution to Instructor Development”.
In 2000 Sendi completed his Course Director course in Malta. Today he is a well known figure in the Maldives as the only PADI Course Director in the country; Sendi has also received the 2003 tourism award given by the President of the Maldives for using his efforts in the dive industry.

Assistant Instructor Course
PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the Instructor Development Course PADI Logo
PADI Assistant Instructors can:
  • Teach the knowledge development portions under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Teach the PADI Peak performance Buoyancy Specialty course
  • Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses
  • Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences
  • Teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course
What requirements do I need to have?
  • PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another certification organization
  • At least 18 years old
  • Have 60 logged divers, including night, deep, and navigation dives
  • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months

What will I do?
  • Complete knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
How long is the course?
  • The course will take five days including one day for preparation

Open Water Scuba Instructor program
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors may conduct a broad range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba to Divemaster.
What qualification do I need to have?
  • PADI Assistant Instructor certification or be an instructor in good standing with another training organization for at least six months.
  • Hold a dive certification for at lease six months
  • Have 60 logged divers that include night, deep and navigation dives
  • Proof of CPR training within the last 24 months
  • Medical clearance signed by a physician
Scuba Instructors
What will I do?
  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open Water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
  • Have at least 100 logged dives prior to entering a PADI Instructor Exam
  • 100 logged dives to attend the Instructor Exam
