Faana Thila
|
|
Located in the middle of Dhigurah kandu almost 5km wide are several current-swept thilas that attract a profusion of marine life. Sausage-shaped, Faana Thila is the largest of these, offering fantastic caves and masses of fish. Pelagic fish congregate on the north side and northeast corner, where a rocky outcrop extends from the reef. You may see tuna, sharks, rainbow runners and big schools of fusiliers. The entire area is undercut with cave formations. Some are so big you feel like you’re entering a huge house with nature’s own designer touches. The ceilings are overgrown with tubastrea and soft corals, while the floors are garden of crimson sea whips, gorgonian sea fans, crinoids and big black corals trees, long-jawed squirrelfish, coral hinds, bignose unicornfish, hawkfish and many types of shrimp gobies. Friendly turtles regularly visit the reef. |
